Is globalization a driver of climate change, or a key to it‘s solution? - Präsentation im Englischunterricht
Emma showed that globalization has two sides. On the one hand, it has made climate change worse. Products are made in one country, shipped around the world, and used in another, all creating pollution. Rich countries often buy cheap goods from poorer countries, but the pollution and waste stay behind. Fast fashion, shipping, and long supply chains are all part of the problem.
On the other hand, Emma also explained how globalization can be a solution. It allows countries to work together. Thanks to global trade, clean technologies like solar panels and electric cars are becoming more affordable. Social media and international climate movements have helped spread awareness and connect young people worldwide.
But Emma made it clear: awareness is only the first step. Many people feel helpless or tired of hearing about climate change. Also, some companies pretend to be green without taking real action, a problem known as greenwashing.
Emma also spoke about climate justice. Countries in the Global South, which are the most affected by climate change, are often left out of important decisions. She said these countries should receive more support and be included in global discussions.
Subsequently, it has to be said that Emma’s presentation not only succeeded in it’s content, but also in her presentation technique. Emma kept a vigilant eye on the balance of presenting and engaging with the audience, containing not only asking the audience questions, but also having them split in groups, a different standpoint for each group, which then come up with arguments and discuss them afterwards.
In the end, Emma’s message was simple but strong: globalization is not good or bad, it is what we do with it that matters. We can use it to hurt the planet or to help save it. The choice is ours.
Anil Kocak himself stated afterwards “I am happy to see my students being so elaborate :))“
A special thanks goes out to the Auszeit for providing their premises for us, and Tjark Brüning for organizing them. And of course, a thanks goes out to Mr Kocak himself for taking it upon himself to provide his beloved students with beverages during the presentation!
